Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea - April Genevieve Tucholke I received an eBook ARC of this from Penguin via Netgalley!

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue sea is a book that completely surprised me. I went into this book thinking it was going to be another predictably dull paranormal romance. I thought it was going to revolve completely around a teenage protagonist being head-over-heels in love with a boy, unable to notice any sort of flaws in his character whatsoever; it was not. It was full of mystery, suspense, and adventure.

Violet, and her twin brother Luke, live in a beautiful yet decaying mansion that she refers to as Citizen Kane. In desperate need of money (due to her flighty parents running off to Europe and her once affluent family's funds having run dry), Violet decides to rent out the guest house behind Citizen Kane. A boy named River West responds to this ad and begins renting from them.

Almost immediately Violet finds River alluring; even when horrific accidents begin to occur and she begins to suspect that River is a part of it. Throughout the book she is constantly torn about her feelings towards River (and what a coincidence: I was too).

I was excited to find out this is the first in a series, and I can't wait for the next one.
